Intel Mac
先日の記事を書いた直後にG5を購入してしまったが，その後に見つけた心強い情報。
なんでまた，購入前に見ておかなかったんだろう（買ったことを後悔させる内容ではない），AppleInsider（3月7日付け）。
Speaking to developers at its semiannual developer forum on Tuesday, Intel Corp. shed a few new details on its next-generation multi-core desktop processors, which are destine to turn up inside Apple's first Intel-based Power Mac systems in the second half of the year.
During a keynote presentation, Pat Gelsinger, Intel's senior vice president and general manager of the Digital Enterprise Group, showcased "Conroe," a dual-core desktop processor based on the company's new Core microarchitecture that can reduce power consumption by 40 percent while delivering greater than 40 percent improvements in computing performance.
The chip, which is on track to begin volume shipments in the third quarter of 2006, is the most likely candidate to turn up in Apple's Power Mac professional desktop systems late in the Summer.
Gelsinger revealed that Intel has decided to make Conroe part of its Professional Business Platform -- codenamed Averill. He said the new platform will deliver world-class IT security and manageability capabilities for businesses through the Conroe dual-core processor along with a new chipset codenamed Broadwater, Intel Virtualization Technology and the second generation of Intel Active Management Technology.
Intelチップ搭載の"Power Mac"は，本年後半，搭載チップはConroe，との予想。これはオイラの無根拠の予想と一緒。補強情報として，通例5月〜6月に行われてきたWDCが本年は下半期に行われるらしい。

Additionally, Intel also announced at the conference that it plans to ship a quad?core processor -- codenamed "Kentsfield" -- for high?end desktop PCs in early 2007. However, further details of the chip were not available.
2007年初頭にハイエンド向けのquad-coreプロセッサ"Kentsfield"が予告されていて，現行Power Mac G5 Quadの後継…というよりも，G5 QuadがDual*2であるコトを考えれば，真に"Quad"の名にふさわしいMac Hexa*1 Quadが１年後に予想（期待）される。
別に，常に最新機種を使いたいわけでもない —現に現行G5発売（昨年10月）から購入（先日）までやく半年のラグがある— ので，仮に予想が外れて来月にCore Duo(Yonah)搭載Macが出ても現行G5で十分だし，予想どおり第3四半期〜第4四半期初頭にConroe搭載Macが出ても来年のKentsfield搭載Macが予想される以上，コストパフォーマンス（と私の必要スペック）を考えればConroe搭載Macは「
同じくAppleInsider，一昨日付けの記事。と言っても，AppleInsider独自情報ではなくCitigroup（のRich Gardner氏）の予想。

30周年（記念）の4月1日前後に，Intelチップ搭載のiBook，iPod videoの発表／発売を予想／期待，とのことで，上記，先日の文脈，つまりG5購入に関しては，これはMac HexaやG5のアップグレード版の発売／発表がない，と読み替えられる。
Gardner also believes the company could use its anniversary to announce that all Apple-branded software has been ported to run natively on Intel Macs, or roll out iTunes service enhancements.
全てのApple純正ソフトウェアのIntelチップ・ネイティブ化やiTunesサービス（iTMS?）増強もあると信じたい，とのことだけど，G5を買った以上Intelネイティブ化にはG5版のアップデートがなくなる危惧程度の意味しかないし（私の場合，OSを含む多くのソフトウェアについて，セキュリティ・アップデートで十分），パソコンで音楽ライフを充実させたい，とも思ってない —先にiTMS?
と書いたのが，興味がないのでiTunes周辺のコトはよく分からない— のでiTunes云々も興味なし。
In August, the analyst sees Apple wrapping up its Intel transition with new dual-core Power Macs based on Intel's Conroe desktop processor. The Power Mac announcement, which the analyst predicts will take place at company's annual World Wide Developers Conference, would also coincide with the first public demonstrations of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard -- the company's next generation operating system due by 2007.
この辺は，先日の私の予想，上述のAppleInsiderの予想と同じ。（心強い）
そういえば，10.5 Leopardには一貫して触れていないが，10.4あたりから追加される新機能に魅力を感じられず，多用しているソフトウェアが旧バージョンのサポートを捨てた時がOSのアップグレード時期になっているので，Leopardについても現時点で興味はない。
というわけで，来年初頭〜前半，Mac Hexa Quad*2が出た時点で，１年前／１．５世代前のG5の中古相場が先日の記事の予想どおりにおさまるかは疑問が残るが（加えてClassic環境を完全に手放せるか*3も微妙なトコロだが），とりあえず昨日購入，今日出荷，明日にも到着予定のG5を，
つーか，発注から出荷までが早くて，増設メモリ，HDDの購入が間に合ってない…
メモリ
100年の昔から，PC/AT用よりも割高な「Mac用」メモリについては，これも100年の昔から規格，仕様をキッチリ調べれば（PC/AT用を）割安で入手・仕様できる。
実際，現行G5用のDDR2 SDRAM PC2-4200（及び下位互換でDDR2 SDRAM PC2-5300）についても，「Mac対応」を謳わないメモリの動作報告は少なくない。「相性」がこれまでと比べて非常にシビアであるとの情報も殆どない。
1GのメモリはPC/AT用が1万，Mac用*4が1万強〜2万弱と，確実性（保証）を求めて「Mac用」を買ったとしてもさほど悔しくはない価格差だが，2Gモノになると4~5万と10万強と，ちょっとMac用を買うのは躊躇われる価格差がある。
ここ数ヶ月の動向としては2Gメモリの価格は（生産ライン増加のせいか）値下がりが続き，今後しばらくも続きそうな印象だが*5，ノーブランド物は底値に近く，あとはブランド物がノーブランド物の現状価格に近づいて行くのみ（メモリ相場全体としては値下がり）ではなかろうか。
とすれば，搭載チップのメーカー（ブランド）が明確で保証（≠相性保証）もあれば，半年間1Gメモリで我慢して，後に2Gに買い替えるのはそれほど得策には思えない。
さて，どうしよう…
